Members of the Month | August 2017

Each month at Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego, we like to spotlight one young member from each of our two facilities in City Heights and Oceanside due to their exceptional performance and dedication to our programs. We’re proud to present our “Members of the Month” for August 2017 — congratulations!

City Heights: JaNidu GOONAtilaka

Janidu (Level 5) has been part of our family since he was seven years old. Now entering his junior year at West Hills High School, he is a great ambassador for Pro Kids and sets a wonderful example for our younger members. Janidu works hard on his golf game, excels in the classroom and exemplifies our words to live by.

Oceanside: miguel martinez

Miguel is a Level 4 Member entering his freshman year at El Camino High School. He is friendly, helpful and an excellent role model for all Pro Kids’ member. Ask him to help with a golf class, ask him to help with homework, ask him to staff a special event.  Miguel not only fulfills his responsibilities, he exceeds expectations.

We’re proud to present our “Members of the Month” for July 2017 — congratulations!

City Heights: Jamie Lau

Jamie is a Level 6 member entering her sophomore year at Helix High School.  She started at Pro Kids as part of the Little Linksters program. Jamie is a regular on the course and in the learning center. She is a great representative of Pro Kids and always offers to help out the staff and her peers.  When she isn’t golfing, she enjoys reading and creative writing. Jamie would like to attend a four-year university although she is not sure yet what she would like to study.

 

Oceanside: FERNANDO LOpez

Fernando will be starting eighth grade at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in the fall and is a Level 4 member. Fernando is always quick to volunteer to go with Coach Don to the Oceanside Municipal Golf Course to play some holes or work on his swing at the driving range. He has a positive attitude, a willingness to help around site and is kind to both the other members and staff. These qualities make him a leader among his peers.

City Heights: SETH Ortega

Seth is a 6th grader at Thrive Charter School and a Level 2 Member. For the past year, he has been spending his afternoons at Pro Kids. Throughout this time, he has demonstrated a great strength of character, determination, and appreciation for golf.  Seth has been a positive force among his peers in the Academy, as well as on the golf course.

City Heights: Christiana Keibally

Christiana Keibally Christiana joined Pro Kids in 2012 and is one of our inaugural Academy members. She recently advanced to Level 4 in the Golf and Life Skills program and shows great promise as an all-around athlete. Fun, outgoing and always eager to learn, Christiana was recruited to the new Pro Kids PGA Junior League team, where she has had the chance to play longer courses and develop new friendships with her teammates. Through her extensive Pro Kids engagement, excellent grades, and dedicated community service, Christiana has accumulated a considerable amount of Pro Kids member points, which she often uses to buy things for younger members. Christiana is a true class act who sets a great example for all.

Oceanside: Sheila Miguel

Sheila Miguel Sheila walks to Pro Kids’ Oceanside site most days from its partner school, Reynolds Elementary. She arrives every day with a big smile on her face, ready to help out in any way she can. Sheila has a consistently positive attitude, and she treats staff, volunteers, and her fellow members with respect and kindness. At 9 years old, Sheila is already demonstrating leadership skills and serving as a role model to others — completing her room jobs and encouraging the rest of her team members to do the same. By taking advantage of our weekly tutoring sessions and working hard, Sheila has improved her academic performance this year. She is a kind and caring person who enjoys helping others.

We’re proud to present our “Members of the Month” for April 2017 — congratulations!

City Heights: Stephanie Fernandez

Stephanie Fernandez Stephanie has been a member at Pro Kids since 2008, and is currently our only active member to have reached Level 7 in the Golf and Life Skills program. Needless to say, Stephanie is an amazing golfer and dreams to one day play on the LPGA TOUR. In just a few short weeks, she will be graduating from The Charter School of San Diego and will head to California State University San Marcos over the summer, where she hopes to join the golf team. Stephanie embodies the Pro Kids philosophy in all aspects of her life, and will be a great representation for our organization for many more years to come.

Oceanside: Destiny Green

Destiny Green Destiny is in 7th grade at Martin Luther King Middle School, and is admired by her peers and younger Pro Kids members for her leadership, encouraging and supportive attitude, and enthusiasm for volunteering. She is a Level 4 golfer, working toward advancing to Level 5. In addition to golf, she plays volleyball, maintains excellent grades in all of her classes, and aspires to join the school yearbook team. She is also involved in Pro Kids Oceanside’s All Girls Matter mentoring committee, participating in the committee’s “Big Sister” program, team-building activities, and character development workshops. Destiny approaches middle school with patience and integrity and she always dares to dream big – like aspiring to attend University of California, Berkeley!
